Earlier this week I took Sweet Pea to her 1 year check up. Everything went just fine.
Later I read the "12 month developmental" paper they send home with you. Everything looked normal except one thing. Your child should be able to obey one step directions.
So, I tried this with Sweet Pea today. I told her to go balance my checkbook. No response. So I went for something a little more simple. I told her to go get her diaper. And she didn't do it!!! Can you imagine a 12 month old NOT being obedient??? And not only did she not obey, she looked at me with a blank stare, being blatantly defiant! As if she had no idea what I was talking about!!!
Apparently she is so brilliant, she speaks other languages, just not English. Either that, or I have a long ways to go as a parent.
(P.S. And please don't leave comments and/or tell me that when your brilliant child was 12 months old they did all sorts of one step directions. I won't believe you. In fact, I will know you are outright LYING!!)

When my children were 12 months old they were capable of one step directions - as long as the directions were 'spill food on the carpet', 'scream your lungs out', or 'poo through your diaper so that mommy wants to cry'. Of course, the other caveat was that they do this on their own time with no regard for what I was actually instructing.
Claire was VERY obedient, but only to her own will. She did start walking at 8 months though. I don't know if that was more brilliance, or just the extreme desire to get into everything.
I didn't know you were a funny girl, Word Girl. I did NOT expect the checkbook line. That was funny.
My daughter was writing sonnets at 12 months.
On demand.
Actually, I did know you were funny. But, as a parenting expert myself, I just want to point out that Sweet Pea is actually brilliant. Why on earth would you EVER consider doing work, exerting yourself, or following a command, when you have 5 capable people at your beck and call to do whatever you heart desires. Without even asking.
p.s. If you are looking for a parajob, I know a place that hires your kind. Unrealistic demands, assuming blatant defiance...
Just a thought.
