(Background: last night for dinner I made asparagus, mashed potatoes, and liver and onions. BA and Boo DO NOT like liver and onions, so BA made some pork chops.)
Dinner conversation tonight:
Me: This is a great dinner. Nice and healthy with the liver chopped up into the meatloaf.
Boo and BA stop chewing mid-bite. Looks of disbelief are shot my way. Though I try to keep a straight face, I can't. But I continue to insist on this through all my laughing.
Boo leaves the table and refuses to eat anything anymore. BA takes a few more minutes to pry out of me if I did put liver in the meatloaf. Finally he goes to look in the fridge to make sure the two pieces of liver are indeed still in the fridge. They are. He eats. Boo takes another 5 minutes before she calms down enough to come back to the table.
Me: Doe, do you like liver?
Doe: Yes
Me: Ubby, do you like liver?
Ubby: Barely.
Boo: So there really isn't liver in the meatloaf, right?
Me: No, there's not.
Ubby: "Good one, Mom."
Yes, my 5 year old is congratulating me on "getting" his 10 year old sister.
(Incidentally, Ubby has always prided himself on trying and liking all foods. Last night when I gave him some liver, he happily put it in his mouth while announcing to his sister that he "liked liver". Almost immediately the liver was spit out of his mouth and he revised his opinion. He "barely" liked liver, he told us.)

tell BA that if he complains about dinner, you'll slip liver into his pillow
I can't say I blame them. Liver is not my thing. But the comment about putting it in the meatloaf- that was AWESOME!!
This has to be the fundamentally baffling thing to me about having kids. Why won't they eat anything interesting? Particularly, why won't my kids eat anything interesting? Joshua and I don't eat "boring" food. We love barely seared tuna, Thai food, Indian, Mexican, and even liver and onions (we serve it with polenta, it's a great recipe). Our kids like chicken nuggets and noodles - uugh.
My family will never eat liver. Who knows what proof that cow has been drinking?
But really, I was forced to eat that and tongue as a child and it was traumatic. It's not all sweets and chicken nuggets at our house, but I won't serve things that I HATE!!! There are enough things that I love (or at least like) that are healthy, we can live without liver.
Be Strong BA and Boo!!!!!!
Ubby is so cute! He is always a ton of fun in primary. Great kid.
