School Buses

Riding on a school bus makes me tired.

Especially when it's 1 1/2 hours each way.

As most of you know, Boo is home schooled for 1/2 day. She goes in the morning for L/A and all the extra classes- art, music, etc. Then I pick her up either before or after lunch.

Since she is home schooled, we are in the school district home school program. Yesterday they had a fieldtrip up to Dubuque to the National Mississippi River and Aquarium.

I must insert a story here that I remembered while on the bus yesterday. When I was in high school I was on the volleyball team. We traveled frequently to other schools for games. All of these trips were after school. I didn't have any really close friends on the volleyball team, so I would sleep on the way to the games (and to my knowledge I was the only one who slept on the bus.)

My senior year, the volleyball coach had some family issues and was unable to coach so the JV coach stepped in. She didn't like me much- I think I was too religious for her. One day in team meeting she announced that a new rule was there was no sleeping on the bus. (Still to this day I am unsure as to why she felt like she needed to make that rule.) So I would sit on the bus and use all my will-power to stay awake.

Anyway...

The ride to the museum was fine. I had a lot of thinking I could do about the primary. But the way back was rough. Boo slept (she was the only child on the bus who slept--it must run in the family.) I didn't really have a place to sleep. Thank goodness when I got home I got to have a nap.

While at the museum I walked into the gift shop. Right out front there was a book:

I smiled at the history I have with this book. I'm pretty sure I got it from Scholastic when I was teaching. I was so excited to get this great deal where they send you 100 books. But when I got all the books, I realized why it was a great deal- most of the books were...du...I mean not that great.

Fast forward a few years to when I had children.Ubby loved books from a very young age and picked out this very book to be his favorite. It was ok at first- reading it 5 or 6 times a day. Every day. Over the months and even years, BA and I began to dread this book and would even hide it every now and then so we could read other books to him. I have to admit that this book is in a box full of other annoying books that we need a break from--a long break. Maybe he'll get it as a wedding present.
